SeedVR2 is the lower-cost starting point. Crystal exposes creativity; neither model is universally more faithful.
The actual comparison
One submitted input. Two independent model calls. Pick a model to inspect the real result.

The source is original synthetic artwork. Inputs were downsampled and lightly compressed before submission; every after is the named fal endpoint’s real output. No CSS blur or separately generated after is used.

SeedVR2 is the lower-cost starting point. Crystal exposes creativity; neither model is universally more faithful.
- Same input and target dimensions
- Recorded settings, not labels changed afterward
- Actual cost unit: output MP
The controls are different
The current fal image endpoints accept an image and numeric options, not a text Prompt. SeedVR2 exposes seed and noise scale; Crystal exposes creativity.
The new scene comparisons use SeedVR2 noise 0, seed 42 and Crystal creativity 0, both at 2× PNG. These are restrained baselines, not a claim that 0 is optimal for every image.
| Control | SeedVR2 | Crystal |
|---|---|---|
| Text Prompt | Not accepted | Not accepted |
| Reconstruction control | Noise scale | Creativity |
| Seed | Available | Not exposed |
| Output here | PNG, JPG, WebP | PNG, JPG |
| Full-resolution price | 1 credit / output MP | 7 credits / output MP |

Current endpoint schemas and our site controls were checked November 5, 2026. Available site scale factors are 1×/2×/4× and 4K long-edge mode, subject to output limits.
Compare the image, not the brand
On the examples, inspect edge definition, facial identity, repeated geometry and texture. A result that adds pleasing texture can still be a worse match to the source.
Crystal is described by its provider as focused on facial and portrait detail. That is the provider’s product description, not proof that it will outperform SeedVR2 on every portrait or illustration.
Understand the price difference
At the same output size, Crystal’s site price is 7× SeedVR2’s. Both use whole output MP rounded up, with a 1 MP minimum.
A 768 × 512 input at 2× becomes 1536 × 1024, or 1.57 MP, billed as 2 MP: SeedVR2 costs 2 credits and Crystal 14. At 4× it becomes 3072 × 2048, or 6.29 MP, billed as 7 MP.
A sensible starting decision
Start with SeedVR2 for a low-cost baseline, then compare Crystal when you want to see how a different reconstruction model handles faces, materials or linework.
Keep output size and format matched. Crystal’s exposed endpoint does not include a seed, and repeated processing need not be identical. Never treat any invented detail as documentary evidence.
Questions before you process
Does Crystal always make sharper images?
There is no universal result. The apparent sharpness, faithfulness and suitability depend on your input and settings.
Can I use a Prompt with either model?
No. The image endpoints used here do not accept one. We send only supported image and numeric parameters.
Can I switch the model after generating?
A different model requires a separate request. The displayed sample and completed result retain the actual model used; changing a control does not relabel an old output.
